The field of Applied Behavior Analysis is expected to grow by 33% by 2020. Professionals with education and experience in applied behavior analysis are in demand by non-profits, social services, education programs, corporations, and just about anywhere else where understanding, and improving, human behavior is essential. Earning a graduate certificate in ABA provides individuals with the knowledge and experience needed to better understand human behavior and what is needed to help people achieve their maximum potential.

There are well over a hundred certificate programs in applied behavior analysis in the United States. We were driven to create a ranking of the top 40 programs to help those interested in ABA to select a program that will meet their personal and professional goals. We researched accredited universities offering a stand alone, online certificate in the area of applied behavior analysis. We narrowed our list to programs offering the Verified Course Sequence needed for students to be eligible for their Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification. Programs offering the Verified Course Sequence meet specific faculty and coursework standards consistent with accepted standards in applied behavior analysis. The VCS is a series of six courses individuals need to complete to fulfill the education requirement needed to sit for the BABC Certification exam. We then ranked these programs by their student/faculty ratio and average graduate tuition rates provided by College Navigator. We also included the school’s 2016 BCBA exam pass rate provided by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Where there are ties, the school with the lower average graduate tuition rate/year is favored.

The online applied behavior analysis certificate program at Hunter College was developed with support from the New York Collaborates for Autism. The program is designed to increase the availability of professionals who have experience providing ABA services to those with autism spectrum disorders. The program can be completed in just three to four semesters by taking one or two courses each semester. Courses include single subject research design, ethics, behavior analytic approaches to learning, and autism intervention. While coursework is offered online, students need to log in at scheduled times to participate in class. This format insures the same academic rigor is applied to both the classroom and online ABA  certificate program.
