Oregon Institute of Technology is also featured in our ranking of the Top 20 Online Applied Behavior Analysis Bachelor’s Degree and BCaBA Coursework Programs.

The Oregon Institute of Technology created Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs to meet the demand for qualified ABA specialists in the Pacific Northwest. Students can earn a Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis through degree programs offered on its campuses in Klamath Falls and Portland. The Portland campus is close to the metropolitan heart of the city and offers convenient access for students who live nearby. A graduate certificate program is available that only includes 27 credits of classes and an intensive practicum. Students take nine classes and then do their practicums.

Students in the MS in ABA program will follow an approved course sequence that includes classes on working with clients and their families. Once they complete the program, they can become licensed behavioral specialists after taking and passing an exam. The sequence consists of nine classes, including Behavior Modification I and II, Advanced Behavior Modification I, II and III and Performance Management. Also available are electives such as ABA and Education for those who want to work in school settings and Clinical Behavior Analysis for those who want to help clients change their behaviors. Other electives include Community Behavior Analysis and ABA and Health.

Featured Programs

The institute also offers a Master of Education with an emphasis in ABA and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Students will take 27 credits of ABA courses and 18 credits of ASD classes. Those courses include Assessment of ASD, Foundations of ASD and Special Topics in ABA. The program also includes three courses that require some fieldwork and work in a lab. One of the unique features of this program is that it asks students to take distance education ASD courses through Southern Oregon University and take their ABA courses through the institute. Five of the classes in the ABA sequence are available for undergrads who want to study behavior analysis too.

Oregon Tech also offers an online Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology with a BCaBA course sequence.

About the Oregon Institute of Technology

The Oregon Institute of Technology is a public university also known as a polytechnic university because of the technology and research programs that it offers. Established in 1947 as the Oregon Vocational School, it opened at a time when soldiers returning from World War II wanted to go back to school and begin careers outside of the military. The first location opened was in Klamath Falls in a former hospital used by the Marines. It became the Oregon Technical Institute in 1948. Enrollment in the institute changed from primarily former military students to more traditional students as the years passed. Though the institute opened four campuses in Portland, it merged those campuses in later years. There is also a campus in Klamath Falls and one in Wilsonville. The Oregon Institute of Technology also uses other names, including OIT and Oregon Tech.

OIT now ranks as one of the top technical schools in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Many of its students come from surrounding states, though students also come from the East Coast and other countries. The institute added graduate degree programs to its curriculum in the 1990s and added other programs as the interests of students changed. It now offers several ABA programs with opportunities for students to work in the field with clients on the autism spectrum. More than 5,400 students attend Oregon Tech each year. The US News and Education Report ranked OIU as one of the best colleges on the West Coast.

Oregon Institute of Technology Accreditation Details

The regional accreditation held by OIT comes from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). NWCCU accreditation is important for two different reasons. It lets students know that the credits they earn from the institute will be valuable at other universities. This accreditation is also what lets students submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online and get financial aid, which is useful for graduate students.

Oregon Institute of Technology Application Requirements

Students applying to the ABA certificate or degree program must submit an application to the Oregon Tech Graduate School. They will go to the admissions website and follow the prompts provided to create a new account. This is the account that they will both use to apply and view the decision made by the institute. The site allows students to select an option to create a new application and fill out the information required. Oregon Tech asks students to choose between the degree and the non-degree/certificate ABA programs. Those applying to the ABA and ASD program must submit an application to the Southern Oregon University too.

Featured Programs

Oregon Tech encourages students to start their applications at least six months before the semester when they want to start begins. The institute only accepts those with a 3.0 GPA in the last 45 quarter hours of major classes taken or the last 90 quarter hours of all classes. They must also be in good academic standing in their former colleges. Both the ABA and the ABA/ASD programs require official transcripts from students. Those transcripts must show that students meet the minimum requirements of the graduate school.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The certificate and degree programs in ABA offered by Oregon Tech charge the same rates. This rate is $427 per credit hour for Oregon residents and $717 per credit hour for nonresidents. Nonresidents pay the same rate, even if they live in Washington or another nearby state. Those who enroll in the combined program with Southern Oregon University will pay the SOU rates for the ASD classes they take and the Oregon Tech rate for all the ABA classes they take.

Graduate students can borrow quite a bit of money each year in student loans that come from the federal government and alternative lenders. Alternative loans are usually the last resort for students because they require that students pay more in interest and may require a cosigner. Direct loans are unsubsidized loans that the federal government offers to graduate students. They may qualify for a PLUS loan or for a similar loan that usually goes to the parents of enrolled college students. Graduate students who complete the FAFSA when applying to the institute may receive a grant too. The Oregon Institute of Technology offers financial aid packages for any student applying to an ABA degree or certificate program who also completes the FAFSA.
