Oregon Tech is also featured in our ranking Top 20 ABA Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs.

Though Oregon Tech does not offer an ABA program for undergrads, it does offer an applied psychology program that will help those interested in this career field. The online program includes an externship that allows students to do an internship or some fieldwork in their own towns while working on their degrees. Students will take general education classes and 54 credits of electives, but they’ll also need to take 67 credits of applied psychology courses. These courses include basic counseling techniques, human growth and development, abnormal psychology, social psychology and behavior modification. Psychology students earn 12 credits from fieldwork and the applied experiences that they do in the field. This program features a capstone that requires students do a research project or a paper too.

The school also offers an MS in Applied Behavior Analysis that students can complete online. This program qualifies students to sit for the professional board certification exam that awards them a certificate to practice in the field. The MS ABA program that Oregon Tech offers includes courses such as ABA and special populations, applied behavior analysis and education, community behavior analysis and organizational behavior management and ABA.

About Oregon Institute of Technology

The Oregon Institute of Technology is a large polytechnic institute of higher learning that more commonly goes by the name of Oregon Tech. Established in the late 1940s as the Oregon Vocational School, it opened as a way to help some of the soldiers coming home from World War II. Those students used their GI Bill benefits to pay for schooling and received training that helped them find jobs in the post-war boom. Some of its first classes met in a former hospital once used by the Marines. As the number of soldiers enrolled dropped and the number of more traditional students rose, the school changed its name to the Oregon Technical Institute. It retained its connection to the military though and later offered training programs for soldiers heading off to fight in the Korean War. After moving to a new campus in the 1960s, it changed its name to the Oregon Institute of Technology. Though this is still the official name of the school, it went through branding efforts in recent years to market itself as Oregon Tech.

Oregon Tech now operates two separate campuses. It has one in Klamath Falls, which is considered its main or flagship campus. The second campus is in Wilsonville and is its urban campus. This campus offers opportunities for working and professional students. Oregon Tech has an enrollment of more than 5,400 students across both campuses. This figure includes the students taking classes through its online campus too.

Oregon Tech Accreditation Details

Oregon Tech has accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCU), which is a type of regional accreditation. Regional accreditation is important for students who want to get and use federal financial aid because it’s one of the requirements of getting that aid. It’s also important for students who may want to transfer to or from Oregon Tech in the future. This school also sought accreditation for some of its varied degree programs and now has accreditation from the American Dental Association (ADA), International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CARC) and National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

Oregon Tech Application Requirements

Oregon Tech recommends that any student interested in studying on its campus plan a visit to one of its campuses. They’ll have the chance to meet with real students, check out the facilities on the campus and even sit in on some classes. Incoming freshmen can submit the FAFSA in October and then apply for admission in March. The college has a deadline of January for those who also want to get one of the school’s scholarships. All other students can apply later in the year, but getting an application in early increases the chances that a student will land one of its scholarships.

Once a student completes the online application, he or she will need to pay a $50 fee to process that application. Oregon Tech has a fee waiver for anyone who cannot afford the fee, and it will accept payments in the forms of a check, money order or credit card, which allows the student to pay the fee online. The school asks for an official transcript that schools can submit online or through the mail and an ACT or SAT test score. Students must score at least 1610 on the current SAT or 41 on the ACT. Oregon Tech also requires that student transcripts show that the student took four years of English classes, three years of social studies, math and science classes and at least two years of foreign language classes. Those applying to an online program must meet the same requirements and complete the same steps, but they’ll also need to fill out an eligibility verification form too.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Oregon residents qualify for a lower tuition rate than nonresidents do. Tuition starts at $176 per credit hour, and a full-time student is someone who takes at least 12 credits in a single semester. The cost for nonresidents is around $560 a credit, but the school offers discounts for other students because it takes part in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE). The WUE program allows students from other western states like Washington and California to take classes for a reduced tuition rate of $264 per credit. Certain programs that require lab work like its nursing degree programs charge more.

Students can use financial aid to pay for their tuition and any other related expenses, but Oregon Tech requires that students submit the FAFSA, which is what the school uses to determine the aid package given to each student. A standard aid package will include at least one grant and one or more loans. The college has a work-study program for students who need help paying for normal expenses. This program provides students with an on-campus job that pays them each week. Students can use scholarships and loans to cover their expenses too.
