Applied Behavior Analysis Advanced Certificate

The Advanced Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis at St. Joseph’s College is a 29-credit program that meets the academic requirements for licensure as a Licensed Behavior Analyst in New York. The program also meets the requirements to sit for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst examination. Students may also complete six additional elective credits of intensive supervised practicum that also satisfies the BCBA experiential requirement. Students learn to work with individuals who have been placed on the autism spectrum. The program focuses on behavior interventions, planning and implementation as well as how to remediate maladaptive behavior and teach functional behavior skills to individuals from infancy to adulthood. Courses required for the program include:

Students learn to objectively define target behaviors and select appropriate measurement options. They also learn to design appropriate behavior achievement procedures, including language, academic and socialization skills. Students learn to create ethical and appropriate behavior reduction procedures in order to address interfering behaviors. Principles of research design to evaluate and modify the efficacy of interventions in order to allow precise control over variables that may impact behavior.

About St. Joseph’s College

St. Joseph’s College was founded in 1916 by the Sisters of St. Joseph and opened with 12 students in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn. In 1918, the school moved to 245 Clinton Avenue after they purchased the Pratt home. By 1925, student enrollment had grown to over 200 and the school purchased the Hermann Metz home at 253 Clinton Avenue. That home was demolished, and a new building constructed. The school received its charter from the University of the State of New York. One of the first college preschools on the East Coast opened on the Brooklyn campus of St. Joseph’s College.

In 1935, St. Joseph’s purchased the Allison House at 265 Clinton Avenue and the Pratt House became a convent for the Sisters of St. Joseph with the gardens becoming part of the Brooklyn campus. Another home owned by the Clement family is purchased and becomes an outdoor theater. Male students were admitted in 1969.

Today, St. Joseph’s University continues a long history of providing excellent, yet affordable education. It is consistently included in U.S. News & World Report’s annual “America’s Best Colleges list. In addition, the school is highly ranked by Forbes and is recognized as one of New York’s Colleges of Distinction.

St. Joseph’s College Accreditation Details

St. Joseph’s College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges. The Association is a non-governmental organization that uses criteria to confirm a school provides quality education. St Joseph’s College agrees to periodic reviews to confirm that they are providing students with an education that meets or exceeds criteria set forth by the Association. In addition, the nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The long-term care administration program is accredited by the National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long-Term Care Administrators. The online health information program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.

St. Joseph’s College Application Requirements

Undergraduate students must complete either the Common Application or the St. Joseph’s application. Students must provide official high school transcripts as well as guidance counselor and teacher recommendation. Students must also provide official SAT and ACT scores. Transfer students are only admitted in the fall and spring. Students must provide official transcripts from all college and universities attended. They must also provide a recommendation from a college advisor or professor. Students must have a 2.0 GPA as well.

Students who wish to enter the Applied Behavior Analysis Certificate program must possess at least a master’s degree in behavior analysis, education, psychology or a field related to behavior analysis. Students must have a 3.0 GPA in their graduate studies.

St. Joseph’s College Tuition and Financial Aid

Full-time undergraduate student tuition is $13,615 per year while part-time undergraduate students pay $840 per credit hour. Graduate tuition is $1,025 per credit hour. St. Joseph’s College strives to provide opportunity to students who bring a variety of valuable experiences. The college looks at financial aid as an investment in these students. The college has one of the lowest tuition rates in New York but prides itself on bringing top-tier education at those low rates. Even thought the rates are much lower than other colleges and universities in New York, St. Joseph’s understands that many individuals who wish to attend may need financial assistance.

Financial aid is available in the form of grants and scholarships which are considered gift aid and do not need to be repaid upon graduation. Loans are also available but must be paid after the student graduates. St. Joseph’s also accepts employer, military and veteran benefits for tuition. Some students may also qualify for work-study programs. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA must be renewed each year.

Students must also complete the New York State Tuition Assistance Program application online. The application is available at the Office of Financial Aid. Students who plan to enter in the fall should complete their financial aid documents by February 25 while fall transfer students should complete the forms by March 15. Students who are entering int eh spring should complete the paperwork by November 1.

St. Joseph’s College offers traditional on-campus classes or students may choose to attend online formats.
