In Thach Hall, the College of Liberal Arts awards the 120-credit Psychology Major B.A. for Auburn University undergrads seeking a broad introduction to applied behavioral theories about human interactions at a 19:1 student-faculty ratio. Chaired by Dr. Ana Franco-Watkins, the four-year bachelor’s offers students Psi Chi membership, Little Tree Preschool practicum, monthly ABA Talks, and Assessment Lab access. Belonging to Alabama’s Regional Autism Network, the Applied Behavior Analysis M.S. trains therapists for modifying abnormal and self-injurious behaviors for 92 percent BCBA certification success. Since Fall 2003, the 42-credit, 21-month master’s led by Dr. John Rapp has integrated 750 practicum hours at the on-site ABA Clinic plus Engage Behavioral Health, Transformations Autism Treatment Center, Monarch House, and more. The Graduate Certificate in Intervention for Students with Autism & Developmental Disabilities directed by Dr. Margaret Flores logs master’s grads into Blackboard for 15 online VCS credits, such as Advanced Behavior Management. Lastly, the Cognitive & Behavioral Sciences Ph.D. follows a 62-credit mentored dissertation track under Dr. Jennifer Robinson for intensive inquiries in the MRI Research Center.
About Auburn University
Auburn University originated on February 1, 1856, when the State Legislature authorized the East Alabama Male College for private single-sex Methodist instruction. Three years later, Rev. William Sasnett welcomed an inaugural class of 80 men before closing during the Civil War. In 1872, the State acquired it using Morrill Land-Grant Act funds for the Agricultural & Mechanical College of Alabama. During William Leroy Broun’s 1890s tenure, it first admitted women and transformed again into Alabama Polytechnic Institute. World War I saw enrollment plummet as nearly the entire Class of 1917 enlisted. However, President Luther Noble Duncan responded by creating military training for over 39,000 and free GI Bill education. By 1963, the Auburn University name was adopted and its 1,841-acre Greater Columbus campus was desegregated. The Psychology Department built the only 7T MRI laboratory collecting six channels of psychophysiological measurements in 2012. Auburn University Accreditation Details
On December 11, 2013, the Auburn Report announced that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) reaffirmed the Level VI university accreditation through 2023 under its 18th president, Dr. Jay Gogue, who received the Glenn Howze Academic Freedom Award. Headquartered 115 miles northeast via Interstate 85 in Decatur, this great 11-state Gulf Coast Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to continually examine AU’s 156 baccalaureate, 95 master’s, and 49 doctoral options. Particularly, the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation approved Auburn through August 2027. The Graduate Certificate in Intervention for Students with Autism & Developmental Disabilities was accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) in April 2015 too.
Auburn University Application Requirements
Attending Auburn University is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because just 15,168 of the 18,072 Fall 2017 applicants were successful for 84 percent acceptance. First-year Tigers roaring about the Psychology Major B.A. must complete a core high school curriculum of four English and three Math units, including Algebra II. The Class of 2021 attracted bright freshmen with a median 3.86 GPA, 27 ACT, 611 SAT Reading, and 614 SAT Math mark. Honors College nominees need minimum 29 ACT and 1330 SAT composite scores. Psychology Department transfers must have cumulative college GPAs above 2.5 in 30+ semester credits that feature English Composition and Natural Science. The Graduate School approves Applied Behavior Analysis M.S. candidates finishing any bachelor’s major with at least 3.0 GPAs. Priority is given for full-time work experience with disabled individuals. On the GRE, applicants must reach the 150 Verbal and 145 Quantitative mark or higher. Only master’s graduates with 30+ credits related to special education can pursue the Autism & Developmental Disabilities Intervention Certificate online.
Auburn University has freshmen deadlines of January 15th for Fall and November 1st for Spring entrance. Psychology Major B.A. transfers have until June 1st, November 1st, or May 1st. The Applied Behavior Analysis M.S. and Cognitive & Behavioral Sciences Ph.D. only consider cohorts until January 15th yearly. The Graduate School reviews Autism Intervention Certificate entrants after October 15th and March 15th. Prospective learners utilize the ApplyYourself portal to submit the $50 ($60 if graduate) AU Application online. Paper documents like transcripts are mailed to 106B Hargis Hall in Auburn, AL 36849. Official test scores are sent with ETS code 1005.
