Applied Behavior Analysis Programs at Clemson University

Clemson University offers a variety of programs for students with an interest in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Through the Clemson University Center for Behavior Analysis, students can complete an online course sequence and get their credentials to work in ABA therapy. They can take one course or several at the same time. The sequence has approval from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. This program features nine classes, including Basic Principles in Behavior Analysis, Research Methodology, Ethics and Professional Conduct and Applications in Behavior Analysis: Autism Intervention. It also features a review course that students can take before they sit for the board exam. The online program does not accept financial aid and requires that students pay by check or online with a card before they can take any classes.
To provide students with the backgrounds they need, Clemson University offers both Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) programs in psychology. Both programs include three biology and cognitive psychology courses and some applied psychology classes. In the BA program, majors take more courses in working with individuals and groups such as Lifespan Developmental Psychology, Personality, and Social Psychology. Students in the BS Psychology program take more science classes, including Great Works of Science, Systems, and Theories of Psychology and Science and Values.

Students who want to work in ABA can also gain some experience and knowledge in the university’s Master of Science in Applied Psychology program. It takes two years to finish and includes concentrations in industrial and organizational psychology and human factors psychology. Students will need to do at least one internship and complete a thesis. They’ll have the chance to submit their thesis proposals for approval and work independently and with others to complete the paper. The thesis must receive approval from a board made up of faculty members before the student can graduate. Clemson also offers doctoral programs in human factors psychology and I/O psychology.

Clemson University is a public university known for the research opportunities available for students and faculty members. Anna Martin Calhoun was a local woman and the daughter of a politician. She married Thomas Green Clemson who inherited her estate when she passed away. His will gave the estate to South Carolina to build a new college that would offer mechanical arts and technology programs. Established in 1889, it opened as the Clemson Agricultural College of South Carolina in Clemson, South Carolina. It kept this name until 1964 when it adopted the Clemson University name.
U.S. News and World Report ranks Clemson as the 70th best college in the United States and the 621st best university in the world. It also ranked the university’s psychology program as one of the best. Clemson ranks as one of the nation’s best public colleges too and often appears in the top 30 of all public universities in the United States. Many know Clemson for its teams, which use the Tigers’ name and a claw. Enrollment at Clemson includes more than 19,000 undergrads and more than 5,300 post-graduates.
Clemson University Accreditation Details
Undergrads and graduate students who need financial aid can use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) when they apply to Clemson. This is because the university has regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). SACS accreditation also allows students to transfer their college and university credits to Clemson. Those with an interest in ABA may take classes from programs accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) or the American Psychological Association (APA).
Clemson University Application Requirements
Clemson accepts around half of the applications submitted by undergrads each year. It looks at both the classes that they took in high school and how well they did in their courses as well as their standardized test scores and interests. Students must apply online and then submit an official transcript that shows both the classes they took or will take in their senior years and any grades given to them. Clemson asks for a test score too. It has a priority deadline of December first, which gives students until the end of the month to submit their required documents. The final deadline for undergraduate applications is May first.
The university recommends that prospective graduate students have a strong background that includes psychology courses in cognition, statistics, and perception. Students should go online and read about the faculty members working for the department. The application asks them to name one or more of the faculty members they want to work with in the program based on their interests and career goals. Though students can apply online, Clemson must receive the application and all supporting documents by the 15th of January. They need to submit GRE scores that include the analytical, quantitative and verbal sections of the exam. The university requires undergraduate transcripts, three letters of recommendation and a statement of interest. Clemson allows students to submit letters written by former employers and past professors and will also accept letters written on the university’s official recommendation form. Students can also submit a resume.

Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time Clemson undergrads pay $15,558 each year if they are South Carolina residents. Nonresidents pay $38,550 per year for full-time enrollment. Undergrads also pay $11,414 each year for room and board and an estimated $1,400 for their textbooks. To qualify for the in-state rate, students must present documents that show they lived in South Carolina when they applied. Graduate students pay $833 per credit hour as a South Carolina resident and $1,731 per credit hour as a nonresident. Full-time graduate students pay between $6,225 and $13,425 each semester for full-time enrollment.
Work-study is one of the more popular types of aid given to Clemson students today. This program provides students with part-time jobs that let them work a maximum of 10 hours each week. Though graduate students qualify for assistantships, undergrads qualify for other jobs. The America Reads program is available as work-study and lets students tutor young children. Clemson grants scholarships to students in the spring that they can use in the fall and then awards new scholarships to students in the fall. There are also loans available for students who want to study applied behavior analysis at Clemson University.
