Students with interest in applied behavior analysis and similar areas of study may pursue degrees at every level at Fairleigh Dickinson University. For undergraduate degrees, students may enroll in the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with an Elementary concentration, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with an Elementary & Special Education concentration, or a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Behavioral Neuroscience concentration.

Some of the undergraduate classes in psychology that students may take include General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Psychopharmacology, and Physiological Psychology. In addition, students in undergraduate psychology programs will take several semesters of classes in chemistry, physics, and biology, which usually require laboratories, too.

For graduate-level study, students may pursue a Master of Arts in General Theoretical Psychology with a Behavioral Research Scholar track. The degree requires that students complete at least 36 credits in core courses, required courses, and electives. Students who enter the graduate degree program must finish their studies within five years in order to graduate.

Core courses for graduate students in psychology programs include Clinical Research Methods, Statistical Analysis and Design, and Computer Applications & Report Writing. Required courses in psychology include Theories of Personality, Applied Social Psychology, and Biological Bases of Behavior. Some of the electives students might take include Counseling & Interviewing, Introduction to Psychotherapy, and Introduction to Forensic Psychology.

The university also offers a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association. Fairleigh Dickinson University is a private university in New Jersey with multiple campuses throughout the state and in neighboring states. The institution was founded in 1942 with the motto of “Strongly and Gently.” The university was named after an early benefactor named Fairleigh Dickinson. With more than 11,000 students enrolled, the university is the largest private school in the state. New Jersey campuses include those in Florham Park, Hackensack, Madison, and Teaneck.

Fairleigh Dickinson University Application Requirements

The university encourages prospective undergraduate students to apply early during their senior year of high school since programs at the university fill quickly. Students can fill out the Common Application or the FDU application. Applicants with a GPA of 3.3 or higher aren’t required to submit standardized test scores unless they intend to enter one of a few programs that require test score submission. Students with a GPA below 3.3 should submit their test scores, and the university accepts results from the ACT or SAT.

For graduate programs, students will submit the official graduate application, as well as supplementary materials as required by the student’s chosen program. Students will have their official college transcripts sent to the university, as well as a letter of recommendation. The application fee is $50 and is non-refundable. Although international students aren’t eligible for federal, state, or institutional aid, international students may qualify for aid through the NCAA or for outside academic scholarships.

Students may qualify for a variety of scholarships that are based on need or merit. Merit scholarship opportunities are offered in amounts varying from $11,000 to $32,000, and students may qualify for renewals for all four years of collegiate study. Fairleigh Dickinson University also offers need-based grants of up to $25,000 each year, as well as scholarships for transfer students.
