Actually Genessee College remained in Lima until it closed its doors in 1875.
In actuality, Syracuse University began at the Methodist State Convention in 1870 where a resolution was passed to raise $500,000 to establish an institute of higher learning in Syracuse. The Methodist State Convention pledged the first $100,000 for the fund allowing the school to purchase land in the southeast section of the city. A charter was established in 1870. Until the campus was completed, classes were held in downtown Syracuse in the upper floors of Myers Block buildings. It moved to the current campus in 1873.
