The College of Education at Troy University offers a minor in Applied Behavior Analysis through its undergraduate psychology program. The program provides students with the theoretical background and training to prepare them to work with individuals with autism, developmental conditions, cognitive disabilities, and related behavioral conditions. The courses focus on the application of behavioral principles and help students develop the skills to work directly with a diversity of individuals. The program requires the completion of 18 credit hours and can be completed online or in person. The courses include Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology of Learning, Evaluation of Research for the Behavioral Treatment of Individuals with Autism and Developmental Delays, Behavioral Assessment of Individuals with Autism and Developmental Delays, The Behavioral Analyst as a Professional and Ethical Practitioner, and Applied Behavior Analysis Practicum I and II. The program meets all the academic requirements to prepare students for professional certification as a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst.

About Troy University

Troy University is a public postsecondary institution located in Troy, Alabama. It was founded as Troy State Normal School in 1887 with the intention of providing teacher training. It changed its name to Troy State Normal College in 1893 and Troy State Teacher’s College in 1929. It became Troy State College in 1957 after exponential growth and evolution of offering additional programs besides teacher training. In the 1950s, the college began its affiliation with the U.S. Military as it began offering extension courses are nearby bases. In 1967, the college became Troy State University. In 1973, the university opened sites at military bases in Florida. It opened a branch campus in 1975 called the Phenix City Campus. The Troy State University System was created in 1982. The institution finally became Troy University in 2004. Today, Troy University educates more than 30,000 students on its rural 820-acre main campus and regional campuses and online. It also operates more than 20 service sites in seven states, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Troy University functions on the semester-based academic calendar.

More than 260 academic programs are available at Troy University at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The programs are offered through five colleges of education: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Communication and Fine Arts, College of Education, Sorrell College of Business, and College of Health and Human Services. The university is also home to the Graduate School. The most popular majors include education, psychology, business, management, and marketing. The student to faculty ratio is 15 to one. About 20 percent of classes have less than 20 students.

Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study program is a federally funded program available to students who demonstrate a significant financial need. These students are able to work on a part-time basis to earn money to help pay for their higher education. Students are able to work up to 13 hours a week while taking classes. The pay depends on each student’s specific situation but is at least the current federal minimum wage.
