The psychology programs at the University of Connecticut offer students the chance to study many facets of applied behavior analysis that will prepare them for work in settings like educational facilities, community centers, and private practices. There are degree programs and certificate programs available, as well as some minors that are offered by divisions like the Department of Educational Psychology, the Neag School of Education, and the Department of Psychological Sciences.

There are two certificate programs available that may interest students who already have a bachelor’s degree. Those programs include the Gifted Education and Talent Development Graduate Certificate and the Graduate Certificate in School-wide Positive Behavior Support. The school-wide behavior support program is ideal for individuals who want to pursue in-depth knowledge of applied behavior analysis.
Classes students will take include Applied Behavior Analysis, Classroom & Behavior Management for Special Education, Individualized Positive Behavior Support, and Practicum in School-wide Positive Behavior Support. Students may also consider full degrees in ABA and psychology with a master’s or Ph.D. program from the Department of Educational Psychology.
Students who consider the master’s program should have a goal of working in public schools or similar educational settings. The program is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists, as well as the state’s board of education. Students must complete at least 69 semester hours of classes, as well as a supervised internship of 1,500 hours. Students who pursue the Ph.D. option should be interested in a lifelong goal of research and teaching.

The University of Connecticut was founded in 1881 and was called Storrs Agricultural School. It would undergo several name changes over the years and eventually become a state-funded school with a student body of more than 32,000 students. The school first started admitting women in the early 1890s when the school was transformed into a land -grant college. Today, the university is also a sea-grant and space-grant institution.

The university’s official colors are white, gray, and navy blue and the campus in Storrs covers an expansive 4,400 acres. The university also has a health sciences campus that covers 205 acres.
University of Connecticut Accreditation Details
The University of Connecticut is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. This accreditation covers the entire institution and is important for the university’s ability to offer state and federal grants and loans to its students. The university also has accredited programs that are approved by organizations with recognition from the Council for Higher Education (CHEA) and the U.S. Department of Education.
The School of Law at the University of Connecticut was founded in 1921 and has been accredited for much of that time by the American Bar Association. The school is also a member of the Association of American Law Schools. The Neag School of Education has received accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The school undergoes reaccreditation every seven years with NCATE.

University of Connecticut Application Requirements
Items students must submit during the application process to the University of Connecticut include an $80 application fee, the official application, and official post-secondary transcripts. Students may also apply if they have earned a GED or underwent homeschooling for their education. The university also requires that students send official SAT or ACT scores, write an essay, and submit supplemental application materials if their program requires them.
Students are asked to remember that some programs have different application date requirements, as well as additional requirements for grades, standardized tests, and portfolios. Students who are from Connecticut but don’t qualify for admission will have their applications automatically considered for one of the University of Connecticut regional campuses. International applicants have a separate timeline and list of application items they must submit.
